Admissions

The school is open for visits by prospective parents on Wednesdays at 9am.

Children are admitted to Eversley Primary School in the school year in which they become five - the school year runs from 1st September until 31st August.

The admission criteria is as follows:

  • Children with a Special Educational Need whose statement names Eversley as the appropriate school.
  • Children with a genuine medical need.  This must be supported by a doctor.
  • Children with a genuine social need.  This must be supported by a social worker.
  • Children with a sibling already at the school.
  • Children living nearest the school as the crow flies.

We ask parents/carers to bring their children to toy library every two weeks between January and June in the year leading up to starting school. We offer places to all children whose parents have named Eversley as their first choice school, but an offer of a place at Toy Library does not guarantee admission to Eversley. Toy Library gives parents and children an opportunity to get to know the school and staff and to build confidence in us and our procedures.

We have close contact with our feeder playgroups and nurseries. The Early Years Co-ordinator visits them annually with the LEA Home/School Liaison teacher. This helps us to get to know the children and helps us in our class allocations.

Places are offered at the end of April. In July children and parents are invited to three pre-school sessions when they meet the teachers and work in school for the afternoon. The headteacher talks to parents about starting school.

In September the teachers and nursery nurses make home visits to all children. The afternoon before a child starts school s/he visits the classroom with the parent/carer so that they feel happy about the first day at school. We stagger the intake of children and expect all children to have been admitted by the end of  September.

Children should be secure and relaxed about starting school and their parents must feel confident about leaving them in our care. We believe that our admission process addresses these purposes.
